I began my studies in fine art at a young age, as I come from a family of artists.
Creating art has always been my passion. Loving every chance to use my creativity and imagination, by filling up sketchbooks with ideas and making them into works of art.
I changed my medium from oil painting to pyrography in 2020. Beginning with just an old soldering iron, I quickly fell in love with the beautiful sepia tones of wood-burning and the wonderful aroma of smoke that scents the room as I work. Finding a true passion for the art of pyrography.
Wood, as a medium, is incredibly versatile. The items I create can be functional or decorative, rustic or elegant. There is joy in taking discarded or found wood and giving it another purpose. My goal is to make responsible, local, beautiful art.
The mediums have changed over the years, but the passion to create is consistent. I enjoy being at my easel, behind a camera, woodworking, and pyrography (wood burning).
The Hardscrabble Collection is made up of pieces that are made solely from salvaged trees that were felled in the Village of Farmingdale as part of our town's horticulture maintenance program. Now those pieces of our town can remain with us, in our homes, no matter where we my go.
A few years ago, my neighbor had to lose a beloved tree from the front of their home. It was planted when their children were young and the tree grew- up with their family. I wanted to commemorate this tree and their memories.
I requested a piece of the tree from the maintenance crew. After the drying the wood, I made them a cutting-board, cheese knife handles and a small candle holder, all from their beautiful tree.
Inspired by my neighbors, and with the generous help of the Village of Farmingdale, it is my honor to turn culled trees into an array of useful items and works of art.
